CHILDREN'S HOLIDAY EFFORT

Summer holidays spent at Raumati, near Paraparaumu, were turned to good account in the interests of the patriotic funds by some enterprising Wellington children, whose ages range from six to ten years. They collected old magazines and books, made scones and sweets which they sold, and held small bazaars. But most enterprising of all their fund-raising activities was a plan that was conceived and carried out of charging other children one penny each ior games of draughts. Their efforts resulted in the raising of £1 165,3 d, which has been paid into the National Patriotic Fund. The children concerned were Susan and Gillian Rhind (who were the organisers), Josephine and Virginia Stott, Anne and Margaret Pacey, and Jartette and John Ewart. The year before in their summer holidays some of these children also assisted in raising over £4 for the patriotic funds.
