SCOUT RALLY WEEKEND
The Boy Scouts of Wellington held a rally at the Ba£in Reserve today, and the Youth Service takes place at the Town Hall tomorrow afternoon. The earlier part of Scout Week had contained no public ceremonies. A good dea] of troop work was put in during the week.
The Rally commenced at 2 p.m., the Scouts parading near the Central Fire Station, over 1000 strong, and marching in excellent order along Kent Terrace to the reserve, led by the Band of the Royal New Zealand Air Force. At the reserve there was a full programme of events, including the Breaking of the Flag, which followed the arrivals of the Mayor and Mayoress and his Excellency the GovernorGeneral, Sir Cyril Newall, Dominion Chief Scout.
To the Scouts' Own Service tomorrow afternoon in the Town Hall the Girl Guides, Boys' Brigade, Girls' Life Brigade, and other youth movements have been invited. The service will be attended by the GovernorGeneral, who will read a lesson, and the Mayor will also be present. The address will be delivered by Mr. H. Christie, Dominion Chief Organiser. Representatives of the youth movements will assist in the service. The Scouts parade at Bunny Street, near the Railway Station, at 1.55 p.m., and, headed by the Salvation Army Band, march via Lambton Quay, Willis. Mercer, and Wakefield Streets. The Catholic Scouts will proceed by Wakefield, Cuba, and Manners Streets to St. Mary of the Angels, Boulcott Street. The Catholic Cubs parade in Boulcott Street, and all other Cubs in Wakefield Street. The Town Hall gallery is available for the public and members of the Forces, to whom a cordial invitation is extended. The doors open at 2.30 pm, and everyone is expected to be seated by 2.55 p.m. The service will commence at 3 p-rn.
