The Minister of Public Works (Mr. Armstrong), who is visiting the South Island, will return to Wellington on Tuesday morning.

The Minister of Supply (Mr. Sullivan) made a special trip to Christchnurch by air yesterday, returning in the afternoon.

The Hon. Sir R. Heaton Rhodes, M.L.C., has been elected a life member of the Royal Christchurch Musical Society. Dr. R. A. Falla is a new vice-president.

Dr. A. W. H. West, of Dunedin, has been appointed temporary lecturer in modern languages by the Auckland University College Council.

Mr. H. L. Massey, of Auckland, has been re-elected president of the New Zealand Institute of Architects.

Mr. J. T. Paul, Director of Publicity, left Wellington for Dunedin yesterday and will be absent for several days.

Mr. J. B. G. Bradley, Registrar of the Rangoon High Court, accom* panied by Mrs. Bradley, is visiting Wanganui. Mr. Bradley is on sick leave.

The Rev. A. B. Chappell, M.A., Dip. Journ., F.R.E.S., who has been without pastoral charge for some years, is to re-enter the list of ministers available for appointment to Methodist churches.

The Rev. G. Goodman was reappointed travelling organiser for the Centennial Fund for another year at the Methodist Conference yesterday.

Recent advices from Australia state that Paymaster-Lieutenant Fergus B. Campbell, R.A.N.R. (S),' has been awarded the M.B.E. and has also been promoted to Lieutenant with seniority as from October last. Prior to the war Lieutenant Campbell was a member of the Union Steam Ship Company's seagoing staff.

Advice of the death of a former minister of Knox Church, Parnell, Auckland, the Rev. Dr. J. Bbnnar Russell, while on duty at an air-raid post in Paisley, Scotland, has been received from his son, Mr. H. H. M. Russell. Dr. Russell, Mrs. Russell, and their daughter, Miss E. Russell, were all on duty at the post, and all three were among those killed when the post was blown up by a German bomb. Dr. Russell was minister of Knox Church from 1904 to 1907. He was married in Auckland, where his elder son was born. He was a graduate of Edinburgh University. His ministry began in Scotland, but he also served in Brisbane before coming to New Zealand. He later returned to Scotland.
