In view of the absence of Mr. F. W. Furkert. from Wellington, the Central Committee of the City E.P.S. yesterday afternoon, appointed Mr. C. C. Miles as Chief Warden. Mr. Miles has carried on as. Acting Chief Warden for a long period' and has now been given full official status.

' The Central. Committee also decided yesterday that two full-time liaison officers should be appointed to act as inspectors and advisers, to ensure that all district E.P.S. organisations : and groups were achieving a common standard of efficiency.

In reply to a question, the chairman said that the appointment of these officers, who would have to be. firstclass men, would not take the place of full-scale co-ordinated E.P.S. exercises, which could not take place until all units were brought to the necessary standard of efficiency.
