MR. WEBB ON SITUATION
(P.A.)
AUCKLAND, October 31.
The latest prompting pf Japan by? Germany actively to join the Axis Powers was mentioned by the Minister* of Labour (Mr. Webb) in a lunch-houn address to men employed at the Auckland NaVal Base.
What Germany said about an, attack on Australia might also apply to New Zealand, Mr. Webb said. He thought Japan knew that the taking of Australia and New Zealand would be no easy task, and he doubted whether sh» would heed Germany's advice.
However, if Japan did enter the war, it would mean a changed economy almost overnight, and every \ man, woman, and child'would have to play
a part.
