FULLY PREPARED NOW

AUSTRALIAN PEOPLE

REPLY TO GERMAN ADMIRAL

CANBERRA, October 31.

The advice of the German Admiralty spokesman, Admiral Luetzow, to Japan, to invade Australia was described by the Prime Minister, Mr. J. Curtin, today as a desperate attempt by the Nazis to obtain another fighting ally.

"We want peace in the Pacific," said the Prime Minister, "but our determination to resist aggression is unequivocal.

"For two years Australia has made it clear that she does not regard her^ self as immune to the ambitions of tha enemy, and she has acted accordingly. We are fully prepared, and we are -

assured that we are not acting alone." - Dr. H. V. Evatt, the Attorney-! General, supplementing Mr. Curtin's statement, said the Commonwealth Government had been aware for a long? time that Germany was desperately* trying to compel Japan to enter th« war on the side of the Axis.

Large numbers of German agents andE propagandists had been installed in Japan. Their motive had been to in-i duce Japan to follow Italy's example and stab the democracies in the back..

Dr. Evatt said he hoped the Japan* ese people would not be taken in hf; such crude and naive propaganda.
