LETTER FROM LADY LAMPSON
WORK OF THE KIWI CLUB
"A GREAT PLEASURE"
The following is a letter from Lady Lampson, in reply to one written by. Mr. G. Crosier, of Wellington, after hearing her broadcast recently to the people of New Zealand. Lady Lampson is the wife of Sir Miles Lampson, British Ambassador in Egypt:— "How very nice of you to write and send me that literature on New Zealand. It certainly looks a most beautiful country. ; "I. am so glad you liked mj& broadcast. It gives me the greatest pleasure to do what I can and your people are all so splendid it is the least we can do. "We are very busy with all our different schemes. You will, I expect, have heard of my Kiwi Club for New Zealanders. It was the first of these i clubs at which soldiers can get drinks, tea, spend the afternoon, play games, read or write their letter.. It was so successful that we are looking out for other houses for similar clubs. "Excursions down the river to see j the barrage are regularly arranged and lunch is served on board. This is ■temporarily suspended owing to high Nile but at the end of the season will begin again. Residents in Cairo have regular days for entertaining soldiers at their private houses and your people do so appreciate1 * the atmosphere of 'home.1 "Those in hospital are regularly visited and sweets and cigarettes taken them. Librarians wheel trolleys of books each week and distribute them among the wards. Our work is ever growing and there are always plenty of schemes to work out and complete, and it is a great pleasure to have such work. , "I thought your sketches on your letter splendid and most amusing."— Yours sincerely, Jacqueline Lampson.
