OBITUARY

' MBS. C. E. WHEELER.

. The death of Mrs. Caroline Elizabeth Wheeler, mother of Mrs. C. J. Hawkins, of Karori, occurred at Gisborne recently. Mrs. Wheeler, who was 74 years of age, took a keen interest in church work in Gisborne and gave much of her time to the ladies' guild there. She was^a daughter, of a pioneer of the North''Auckland district (the late Mr. A. P. Ratcliffe), and her husband, the late Mr. William John Wheeler, was widely known throughout the north and on the East Coast for his extensive surveying work.

In addition to Mrs. Hawkins, Mrs. Wheeler is survived by five daughters, Mrs. T. H. Carr (Picton), Mesdames H. J. Poole, A.'R.,Sniith, and W. Carruthers (Gisborne), and Mrs. O. E. Bartletf (Auckland), and three sons, Messrs. E. R., P. G., and S. G. Wheeler, as well as three brothers and five sisters. There are 16 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. ■:
