MUCH WAR WORK
INSTITUTES IN COUNCIL
Though all Women's Institutes in the Southern Wellington Federation have been actively engaged in various forms of war work, members have kept the institute spirit and work up to its former high standard. This was clearly shown at the federation's recent half-yearly council meeting, held at Otaki. The morning session, occupied with business matters, indicated the capable manner in which the institutes had managed through a very busy six months. Stormy weather did not deter a large number of delegates from" attending, . representatives going from as far south as Tawa Flat, and from Ihakara in the northern section. Two institutes were not represented, flood waters interfering with the transport of delegates. Mrs. Taylor, president of the Otaki institute, welcomed all present on behalf of the hostess institute. She was presented with a posy of flowers from Mrs. Synnott,. federation president. Delegates presented many posies to Mrs, Synnott, conveying greetings from their institutes. In the afternoon an address was given by Miss Helen Black on the needs of the adolescent girl and boy. The competition for a "three-minute report" on institute work was won by Plimmerton. A pewter notice board is competed for each year in this manner. Each report showed that institute members were all doing an immense . amount of war work. After a pleasant musical programme a social hour allowed members to renew acquaintances. . ; i
