DAY IN PARLIAMENT
STANDARDS BILL PASSED
The Standards Bill was passed by the House of Representatives yesterday. . During the afternoon a Bill extending the operation of the Fair Rents Act until October 31, 1542, was brought down and with the cb-operation 6f the Opposition was put through all stages and passed in quick time. The measure was necessary as the present extension of the Fair Rents Act expires next Tuesday. Another Bill iixttoduced in the afternoon made provision for the administration of the Kitchener Memorial Scholarship Fund. A Coal Mines Amendment Bill, making amendments to the Coal Mines Act, 1925, in the light of the recommendations made after the investigation of the Huritly mine disaster, was introduced in the evening, was read a second time pro forma, and referred to the Goldfields and Coal Mines Committee. In reply to the Leader of the Opposition (Mr. Holland), the Minister of Mines (Mr. Webb) said that the Bill was ofi a non-contentious nature*
