FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE
An explanation of the assistance given to blinded soldiers from funds set up for the purpose is given by Mr. R, E. Selby, honorary secretary of the Commercial Travellers' and Warehousemen's Blind Soldiers and Sailors Fund, Nos. 1 gild 2. Mr. Selby points out that "Mr." C. H. Humphries, the first blinded soldier in the present war, was reported from Auckland to have been assisted by the trustees of the Blind Soldiers Fund, "who still hold about £11,000 subscribed during the last war." "To avoid any misconception," states Mr. Selby, "Mr. Humphries has not been assisted by money raised for soldiers who were blinded in the 1914-18 war. There are two funds—the Commercial Travellers' and Warehousemen's Blind Soldiers and Sailors Fund for those blinded in the last war, and the Commercial Travellers' and Warehousemen's Blind Soldiers and Sailors Fund. (No. 2) for those blinded in the present war. Mr. Humphries received assistance from the latter fund."
