A MONTH'S GAOL

PENALTY FOR BIGAMY

Saying that there were a whole lot of mitigating circumstances about the. case; but that some form of punishment had to be- imposed, Mr, Justice Blair sentenced Wilfred John Lawson, a labourer, aged 45, to one month's imprisonment in the Supreme Court today for bigamy. The prisoner pleaded guilty in the Magistrate's Court on September 3. His Honour said the prisoner's motives in going through the bigamous form of marriage had been charitable, as he had wished to undo mischief that had already been done.

Mr. R. Hardie Boys appeared for Lawson, and Mr. W. R. Birks for the Crown.
