NEW CITY COUNGIL
COMMITTEES SET UP
CHANGES IN PERSONNEL
IMPORTANT WORK
The first meeting of tne City Council elected on May 17 was held at midday today. Only formal business was done, in the making of the usual declaration by the Mayor and Councillors and the setting up of committees.
In welcoming old and new councillors, Mr. Hislop said that were the times normal it would have been possible, thanks to the sound position of the city, to have embarked upon major development works, but, because of war conditions and the certainty of grave economic difficulties in the future, such development and expansion could not be undertaken.
