DARLAN BITTER
BRITAIN BEFORE WAR
THE FRENCH "TOOLS IN HER
HANDS"
(Rec. 2 p.m.) LONDON, May 29. Admiral Darlan stated in an interview at Vichy:
"Britain instigated this war. The French were simply tools in her hands. England did her utmost to prevent France profiting by her victory in the Great War, and has always sought to weaken us militarily. England signed the Anglo-German Naval Treaty without even warning France of the negotiations. I recall the bitter discussion at the Admiralty with Mr. Alexander, who finally exploded: 'Admiral, you must understand that no First Lord of the Admiralty could sleep while a single French submarine remained in fhe Channel.' "
Referring to the internment of French warships at Alexandria after the Franco-German armistice, Admiral Darlan said: "I pay homage to Admiral Cunningham as the only British sailor who behaved like a gentleman."— U.P.A.
