NAVAL ATTACHE

AUSTRALIA AT WASHINGTON

WELCOME BY MR. CASEY

(Received January 16, 8 a.m.)

WASHINGTON, January 15,

Commander H. M. Burrell, recently appointed as naval attache at the Australian Legation in Washington, has arrived. He was welcomed by Mr. R. G. Casey.

FASCIST FORTUNES

TRANSFER TO AMERICA

LONDON, January 14,

In a broadcast for Italian-speaking listeners, Boston radio has disclosed that large sums of money belonging to prominent Fascist leaders have been sneaked out of Italy and transferred to the United States.

The announcer said that in recent years there had been a great increase of Italian capital in the American markets. In 1938, 217,000,000 Italian lira were sent to America; from December, 1938, to September, 1940, 630.000,000 lira were sent; from September 11 to October 20, 1940, 412,000,000 lira were sent. The announcer pointed out that as the export of capital from Italy is forbidden, such large sums could only have been got out of the country by leading Fascists, who could violate the law with impunity.
