DESPICABLE TRICK

PROPAGANDA IN AUSTRALIA

MELBOURNE, January U

Army intelligence officers said today that cases had come under their notice in which the parents or other relatives of soldiers reported killed or wounded overseas had been telephoned by persons who reminded them that such casualties would not have occurred if the victims had been nonmilitarists.

Describing this as subversive propaganda of a most despicable type, the officers said that the National Security Regulations provided drastic, penalties for any person found guilty of such an action. Every effort would be made to trace the offenders, whose activities, in addition to their subversive nature, were causing unnecessary distress to the relatives.
