NEWS FOR ITALIANS

BEING BROKEN GENTLY

- . LONDON, December 12. ; The news of the Italian defeats in Albania and Africa is being broken to the Italian army gently.

In a broadcast to Italian troops today, Signor Ansaldo warned them that the war may be a long and undoubtedly a hard one. "The Italian people," he said, "must understand that a war like »the present one might have its vicissitudes, and' after weeks of brilliant communiques there must come days of somewhat gloomy communiques."

After this,. Signer Ansaldo says, favourable communiques wilF return again. He said, with some truth: "Now that the war is revealing itself for what it really is, the proponents of a lightning victory are astonished at what is happening, as if it were something incredible."
