ACCORDING TO PUN
ALLIED OPERATIONS
STAFF OFFICERS CONFER
LONDON, December 12,
; The three Italian generals who were captured yesterday in the operations in the Western Desert were taken, to 'Cairo by Royal Air Force planes today.
"' Operations in the Western Desert are .still progressing according to plan. Details regarding the manner in which the operations were begun show that for several weeks a famous mechanised regiment has been engaged in harassing the enemy at one point and preventing the completion of a line of camps. Mechanised units kept open the gap in the enemy's front positions, and at zero hour on Monday the breach was still open when tanks attacked. General Sir Archibald Wavell and Air Marshal Longmore visited advanced headquarters in the desert today and had a long conversation with General Wilson, who is commanding the land forces engaged in the opera tion, and Air Commodore Collishaw, the Canadian air officer commanding the Royal Air Force in that area. General Wavell and Air Marshal Longmore were deeply impressed by the enthusiasm and morale of the troops.
