RUMOUR DENIED

MR. SEMPLE AND SYDNEY FLATS

I A rumour -which he said was persistent that he was adding to his overseas assets by building a £50,000 block of fiats in Sydney was referred to by the Minister of National Service (the Hon. R. Semple) in a statement last night. Mr. Semple emphatically repudiated the allegation. "Beyond my home in Wellington,' said Mr. Semple, "I haven't a cent invested anywhere in the world. I do not own sufficient wood in Australia to build a mouse trap, let alone a block of flats, and if you can find a philanthropist who will pay off the mortgage on my house, lead me to him!" Direct questions regarding his overseas investments had been addressed to him so often, said the Minister, that he thought it advisable to make a public declaration as to the state of his purse.
