INVESTIGATION BEING MADE

(By Telegraph—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, July 29. [ An investigation into the action of waterside workers who refused to continue loading operations on the Matjson liner Monterey on Saturday evening is being conducted by the Auckland waterfront controller, Captain I Stanich, who will make a report to the Waterfront Commission. None of the men have been excluded from the waterfront for their action, as occurred after waterside workers refused the commission's request to work extended hours on July 13, said Captain Stanich. Men permanently ! employed by the stevedore company tin charge of loading operations continued with the work after the waterside workers left the job, and they were assisted by the cranemen, who continued to work the cranes. The I cranemen were employed by the Auckland Harbour Board. The agents of the Matson Line, Henderson and Macfarlane, did not expect that loading would not be completed by 6 o'clock, but one of the derricks on the ship broke down and| loading operations were delayed. When men were likely to be required after 6 p.m. the shipping company had to inform them before 10 o'clock the same morning, but this had not been] done, as it was expected that the work would have been finished in time.
