N.Z. GOLF COUNCIL
PATRIOTIC FUND EFFORT
The New Zealand Golf Council at its meeting this week considered the organisation of a substantial donation to the National Patriotic Fund from the men golfers of the Dominion, and it was decided.to issue a circular letter to all affiliated clubs on the subject. It was reported that the following cablegram had been received from the Royal and Ancient Club of St Andrews: —"Royal and Ancient Club sends cordial greetings to the golfers of New Zealand. We are deeply sensible of the magnificent efforts being made by your country to help in our great struggle—Sutherland, captain." The secretary stated that a suitable acknowledgment had been sent.
Because of the small number of replies received from clubs, it was decided not to go on with the suggested policy covering personal accident insurance for golfers. The offer to renew an existing policy covering third party insurance for golfers for a further year was accepted.
The usual grant of £500 was made to the Greens Research Committee, Palmerston North.
It was reported that the North Island close amateur championship would be decided at Palmerston North at Easter, hut that no application had been received to conduct the South Island close amateur championship tournament.
