OPPRESSION IN POLAND

The Vatican City radio amplified the accounts of Nazi oppression in Poland.
r The majority of the priests were imprisoned, thrown into concentration camps, or sent to Germany for forced labour. Half of the churches have been closed and the services in the remainder restricted to two hours a week. Troops are billeted in the clerical college at Gniezno. The Church of Mary Magdalene at *Poznan has become a music hall, and a police school is housed in the Episcopal College. Statues of saints were demolished. Poles are forbidden to pray at roadside shrines.
