A UNIQUE DOUBLE
lady tinkle Brilliant
Lady. Tinkle, in achieving a. unique double for a metropolitan track by winning the Melrpse and Kaitoke Handicaps with .only .■ one race in between, established herself'as a filly well out of the ordinary. Both ■ her victories, the second with a 71b rehandicap, were ■ easily gained; .This Defoe three-year-old who is a chestnut half-sister to the well-performed Mittie, is one of the most promising horses to pass out of hack ranks during the current season. Another unusual feature about Lady Tinkle's wins is that all four of them to date have 'been secured on the, .Trentham track. However, in eleven starts to date, she has raced on other tracks only three times, twice at Riccarton and once (her first race) at Otaki. , Lady Tinkle left, hack ranks with a real vengeance. ; She Vas started twice because her first win left her with only hack nominations to run out and the rehandicap did not take her to top weight in the remaining chance she had in the grade. / • ' , There was only one stage of the Melrose Handicap at which Lady Tinkle was in any danger of going) under. It was just past the false rail,, when, as she has done several l-tizxied before, she began to gaze about, while Malik Kafur and Areas were challenging. However, with the whip drawn; she got down properly to the job again and finally scored very decisively. Areas again came home solidly, as she .did in Saturday's Trial Plate, and -on her third arid second at the meeting she should be enjoying an early sueCGSS ■' ■■■■■.'"■■.■ ■■ ' ■ ■ Algerian, behind Areas to the straight, finished very fast out on the track to cut down.Malik Kafur, who looked safe for the money at the distance; Kilometre and Myarion (slow at the start);: were nearest of the remainder. Military Maid accompanied the winner till inside the false rail, where she was'chopped back by challenging horses; Te Ore showed pace in the middle stages after being squeezed out at the dispatch. i: In the Kaitoke Handicap Lady Tinklb was ridden in behind the leaders, who early were .Gold Dale, Phenomenal. Gold Chase, and Hearth, but she responded just as well when handled that way. Crossing to the course she moved up behind Gold Dale, and then when asked really to challenge she raced readily to the front and soon had this second issue beyond doubt. • On this occasion she ran very . Autolite gained second place with a fast run down the track. She was on the fence early and was taken out to challenge below the false rail rather than wait for' the possibility, of an opening., Hearth, except- that she drew the wide marble, had every chance. So did Gold Dale, who tired out of the money. Phenomenal also weakened in the last two furlongs. Sceptre passed beaten horses near the, close,, among them Gold Chase, again most disappointing.
