PROOF FOR ADAGE

HAUGHTY WINNER AGAIN

When horses such as Haughty Winner keep on succeeding at Trentham and rarely anywhere else one has to allow some logic in the adage of horses for courses. Haughty Winner added still another, to his score on this track by leading home a good field of form horses in the; Thorndon Handicap. * At the meeting he ran on each day^ for two wins and a c/nse second. ;'■ ; ~

1 Haughty Winner's effort was a near re-plica of his middle day's performance and it. had the same result. He lay half a dozen places back on the rail to the. straight, the field being more strung out, and then he was taken off the-fence to chalJenge finishing resolutely down the outer of the leaders to score by a length and a half. ■ ■■'■■-■"-: ■:■■.'.' Haughty Winner was also successful on the final day last Jauuary, but it was in the Summer Handicap, then

, It is difficult ito excuse a horse tor the third time at, a meeting as being uhlucky,, but: Duncannon was again in : this category. Behind Haughty Winner in the running, he chose to challenge through the field in the straight. The opening was there, but when he reached it it was closing. He literally pushed his way through. That took time and energy',. and when he finally got free;: Haughty Winner was going tdo well.to be caught. Raeburn secured third money from Flammarion on the post. He went right round the middle bunch on the turn and finished well out on the track, so that his placing was deserved. Several horses gotf up for third ~m the final stride yesterday with' challenges out on the track. *

Flammarion and Spanish Lad set a warm face, but they tired out of the money" after being three lengths clear into the: straight. Sleeveless and Globe Trotter followed these two to the. false rail and then retired. Colone! Bpgey and Brunhild, well back early, were'; running -on sixth and seventh respectively Full Hand.was hanay enough to the straight but he failed to come on. over the final stage. ,_
