CONTRACT BRIDGE
All tournaments for the 1939 season of the Wellington Bridge Club are now completed. Mr. Ashley Duncan is top of the individual ladder and wins the McDermont Cup. After Mr. Duncan, the next five players on the ladder are:—Mrs. J. W. Brodie, Mrs. W. J. Hutchison, Mr. G. Roper, Mrs. Joplm, and Miss C. M. Bunny. For the last two nights' play Mrs. .Joplin and Mr. Roper (N.S.) and Mrs. H. H. McLean and Mrs. W. E. Caldow (E.W.) were top on October 10, and Mrs. P. C. Rose and Mrs. J.O'Donovan (N.S.) and Mrs. J. W. Brodie and' Mr. L. Schneiderman (E.W.) were top on October 26. Trophies for improved percentages on the ladder were won by Mrs. H. Spear, Mrs. H. H. McLean, Mrs. J. O'Donovan, Mr. L. Sghneiderman. Goblets were won at recreation evenings by Mr. W. B. Rainey and Dr. Finlay (N.S.) and Mrs. E. M. Hodging and Mrs C. Petry (E.W.) on October 3; Mrs. W. E. Caldow and Mrs. G. F. Jackson (N.S.) and Miss F. Davis and Miss Edmonds (E.W.) on October 17; and by Mrs. F. Whatley and Mr. Ashley Duncan (N.S.) and Mrs, J. Brodie and Mr. L. Schneiderman (E.W.) on October 31. Mr. H. Wilkinson, for winning six goblets during the season, qualified for a crystal jug. A teams-of-fqur tournament held over two sessions (October 12 and 19) resulted in a win for Mr. J. G. McDermont's team (Mrs. McDermont, Miss L. Hall, and Miss R. Mitchell), with Mr. H. H, Young's team (Mrs. Young, Mrs. W. E. Rawson, and Mrs. E. Johnston) second, and Mr. Ashley Duncan's team (Mrs. Duncan, Mr. Roper, and Dr. Finlay) third. Mrs. H. B. Hornibrook and Mrs. C. Petry were the winners of the ladies' pairs afternoon tournament, with Mrs. G. Jackson and Mrs. N. I. Joyce second. For the final afternoon's play, held on1 October 16, Mrs. H. H. Parkinson and • Mrs. M. J. Ashton were top for N.S., and Mrs. G. F. Jackson and Mrs. N. I. Joyce for E.W.
