CANCER CAMPAIGN

AN AUCKLAND POST

(By Telegraph—Press Association.)

AUCKLAND, November 2,

From a number of applications for the position of statistical research officer at Auckland, the local division of the British E»pire Cancer Campaign Society has decided to support that of Dr. F. F. Silberstein, formerly Professor of Pathology at the University of Vienna.

Delegates to the annual meeting of the New Zealand branch of the society were instructed to inform representatives from southern centres of the decision when the conference opens in Wellington. Cabled advice from Mr. Jordan, New Zealand High Commissioner in London, stated that Dr. Silberstein was highly recommended by senior officials of the Lister Institute as possessing exceptionally high qualifications. He had lost his position" in Vienna solely through racial grounds.

Dr. Walter Gilmour said that Dr. Silberstein would not be on the medical register, nor would he treat patients. It was decided that a letter should be sent to the Minister of Health advising him of the executive's decision.

It was stated by the secretary that the amount at present «n hand was £1647.
