The Union Steam Ship Company's tug Terawhiti left Wellington at 1 p.m. for the Port Bowen and is expected to arrive on the scene late tonight. In conjunction with the Kahanui she will make another attempt to refloat the liner at high tide, about midnight. In an effort to lighten the Port Bowen, some of her general cargo was to be dischax'ged this afternoon. The Wellington Harbour Board tug Toia is under overhaul, but the work is nearing its end and pi-eparations are being made to send her to Wanganui tomorrow if necessary.

Officials of the company are optimistic of her being freed tonight.

The Port Bowen is well known in these waters, being a frequent trader to New Zealand. She was built in 1919 by Workman, Clarke, and Co., Ltd., Belfast, for the Port Line. According to a Press Association message from Wanganui, she has on board for London 1840 carcasses of mutton, 8477 carcasses of lamb, 72 tons of sundries, 400 boxes of butter, 700 crates of cheese; for Newcastle, 10 tons of beef; for Southampton, 235 carcasses of mutton, 18,750 carcasses of lamb, 135 tons of sundries, and 150 crates of cheese. )
