NORTHLAND NEEDS

PROGRESS ASSOCIATION

FORMED

A decision to ' form a Northland Progress Association was made last night by a meeting of seventeen•■. residents of Northland, over whom Mr. J. O'Connor, the convener of the meeting,, presided. ..The object of the association is to further the interests of the suburb, which was described as one of Wellington's "Cinderella" districts, a position it had reached, it was admitted, largely because of the apathy of its residents. - i The subscription to the new association was fixed at 2s, 6d a year, and most of those pi-esent at the meeting j agreed to participate in a canvass of j the district in an endeavour to increase! the membership. Forty-five people! had agreed to join the association before the meeting, it - was stated. Speakers appealed for active support for the new association. "The only time we ever got a decent attendance' was when/we put on \ a free supper," said Mr. S. E. Lambert, in reference to the apathy which hacl killed the previous association-.
