ESPERANTO

The weekly meeting of "Le Esperantista Kultura JElondo- de Miramax*" was presided over by Mr. James E. Wells. He congratulated the members on the sustained'interest that was being taken in' the "rondo." The proceedings opened with an extempore narrative related by those present in turn, each member adding several sentences to an imaginary story, which grew more and more thrilling as* it proceeded. A vocabulary drill designed to bring out the knowledge acquired proved a popular feature and was followed by a period devoted to an original e;ssay from each member. The papers .would be carefully marked during the week and returned to the writers for perusal. At the conclusion of several games and a short talk on points of grammar, the evening concluded with supper. 'Mrs William Guest was hostess.

The weekly meeting of the Karori Esperanto Society was held in the Parish Hall on Wednesday, Mr. Nelson Hill presiding. After the period of instruction, Mr. Erwin "Bernfeld late of Vienna, gave an interesting address on "Incidents in the Life of Johann Strauss," in which he said that Johann's great love of music was the cause of his having to leave home. The reunion between Johann and his father, himself a famous composer, was effected only when the father heard the music of his son, and recognised his genius. There were several great composers in the Strauss family.
