WELLINGTON TEAM
Players chosen to represent the Weli lington Badminton Association in the 'final of the Wtndcn Cup interprovincial ; competition a«aip~t Auckland, at New I Plymouth, next Saturday, are as folilows:— Men.—E. A. Rousseli (Wellington Club). G. A. Pearce. E Ridyard.. R.G. Pattinson (Wimbledon). Women. —Miss N. Fleming and Miss C. Philips (Wellington). Misses F. Fernie and L. Berry (Wimbledon). Players not available for selection were H. D. Reid. G Knight, W, Jupp, and Miss M Staples. Pattinson. one of the most promising players to appear in Wellington badminton for many years, played well in the trial matches held at the Winter Show Stadium last night- Matched against Rousseli, a leading candidate for the New Zealand team. Pattinson won in straight sets, 15-6. 15-10. and he defeated Ridvard by 15-8. 17-15. Rousseli beat Ridyard. 15-11. 15-11. Pattinson showed an imnrecnable defence, especially in the back-hand corner, and his showing was most impressive. He hung on well when Ridyard, striking form, made a good run from 8-14 to 14-all in the second set: and though Rousseli was by no means at his best, i Pattinson demonstrated that even with I the Wellington champion in top form jhe would be most difficult. The matches were watched by a.. New Zealand selector, Mr. D. O. Whyte.
