WEIGHT-LIFTING

The future control and organisation of the sport of weight-lifting was discussed by representatives of the Wellington, Napier, and Wanganui Weightlifting Associations who met at Napier last weekend. The secretary of the New Zealand Association (Mr. K. R. Mitchell), who presided, outlined a scheme for the formation of district committees to control the sport in the various centres and to assist in local physical culture displays. He reported good progress in membership and activities in the centres, making special mention of the work done during the National Fitness Week. Other reports were made bY Mr. L. Harris, Hawke's Bay, and Mr. S. J. Nolan, Wanganui, and keen discussion followed. Details concerning "the New Zealand weight-lifting championships, to be held in Auckland on October 23 and 25, were arranged. The reading of an address on t^ie future of the sport, prepared by flhe Health and Strength League, England, concluded the conference.
