The Minister of Industries and Commerce (the Hon. D. G. Sullivan) left for Christchurch last night and will return to Wellington on Tuesday morning. -
The Mayor and councillors yesterday afternoon recorded their deep regret at the death of Mr. F. W. Manton and their sympathy with his relatives. The late Mr. Manton was for a term, a member of the City Council.
Dr. J. E, Giesen, of Dannevirke, who returned to England to complete a special course in medicine, has obtained the degrees of M.C.O.G. and M.D/(London). For the past two years in-.Lon-don Dr. Giesen has been at Queen' Charlotte. Maternity Hospital, and thet; Samaritan" Free Hospital for Women.
The Rt. Hon. Sir Michael Myers, Chief Justice, who has been attending the sitting of the Election Court at Kaikohe, returned to Wellington today. Sir Michael is'to leave Wellington on Friday next for Dunedin to preside at the opening of the criminal and civil session of the Supreme Court there. He is also to preside at the quarterly session of the Supreme Court at InvercargilL
The' Rev. Father M". J. Burke, S.M., has been appointed vice-rector of St. Bede's College, Christchurch, succeeding the Rev. Father A. Cullen, S.M., who has been transferred as parish priest,at Glenlyon, Brisbane. Other changes, "on the college staff are:—^Rev. Father B. Baillie, S.;M. (St. Patrick* College, Wellington), replaces the Rev. Father I. Gupwell, S.M., who has been transferred to St. Patrick's; the Rev. Father B. F. Blake, S.M., who .ha 3 been studying at ,Oxford and Grenoble Universities, rejoins the staff, to which the Rev. Father F. Durning, S.M., recently ordained, has been added. -
