(Received December 23, 2.30 p.m.)
CHUNGKING, December 22.
General Chiang Kai-shek threatened with mass execution officials leading a gay life behind the lines, and declared that it was an unforgivable crime for officials to live festively while soldiers were; suffering privations. If the wives of officials and officers were found dancing their husbands would be held personally responsible. Ministers likewise would be held responsible for the conduct of members of their departments.
The proclamation forbids gambling, elaborate dress designs, and sing-song-houses.
