HUNGARY APOLOGISES
FRONTIER NEGOTIATIONS
RESUMED
(Received December 23, 2.15 p.m.) BRATISLAVA, December 22. The Hungarian Foreign Ministry having apologised to the Slovak members of the frontier commission for the Slanek incident, the frontier negotiations have been resumed.
A Hungarian force of regular and irregular troops engaged Czechoslovak soldiers, at Slanek, in eastern Czechoslovakia, on December 19. The irregulars opened fire and the regulars reinforced them and occupied the villages of Muzmise, Silvas, Slanek, and Kalsa, but the Czechoslovaks threw them out with the loss of two Customs officers and one soldier, who was wounded. The Premier of Slovakia, Dr. Tiso, ordered the Slovak Frontier Commission to interrupt its negotiations with Hungary regarding demarcation of the boundaries until satisfaction was obtained.
