INCREASED BUILDING

(By Telegraph—Press Association.)

PALMERSTON N., This Day.

Representing an aggregate value of £221,842, the highest total for many years, 322 building permits were issued by the Palmerston North City Council during the year, despite the fact that a shortage of skilled artisans retarded the commencement of several projected works. Compared with £215,315 'for 1937 the value of the permits shows an increase of £6527. State houses are not included in the returns. Several big buildings are projected next year.
