BANKING IN N.Z.
MANAGER'S COMMENTS
(Special to the 'Evening Post/)
WANGANUI, December 22
Several factors affecting banking in New Zealand were referred to by Mr. E. P. V. Scaly, retiring manager of the National Bank of New Zealand at Wanganui, at a farewell gathering on Wednesday, when clients of the bank and friends met and Mr. Scaly was presented on their behalf with a Wanganui rug and a cheque by the Deputy Mayor, Mr. J. J. Scott.
Mr.' Scaly said that while it was known that millions of pounds had been sent overseas it was not sent to embarrass the Government, but because there was greater scope for investment in Australia, caution in touching New Zealand investments, fear of the future, and fear of the moratorium on mortgages.
Among the many who spoke appreciatively of Mr. Sealy's activities were Mr. H. J. Duigan (Acclimatisation Society), Messrs. W. Morrison, W. J. Robinson, C. G. Russell, R. J. McDonald, A. J. Crawford (Museum Board), and A. G. Bignell.
