CLOSE TOURNEY
SOUTH ISLAND AMATEURS
The first annual South Island close 'amateur golf championship meeting will be held on the Harewood Club's Christchurch, during the Labour ' weekend. , The programme contains a ■wide variety of events and caters for the long handicap players as well as the low markers. There will be no qualifying round for the South Island championship, as the 32 lowest handicap entrants comprise the field for the first round. For those players .eliminated there will be a number of other attractive competitions. The Harewood course is now in excellent order and an extension of several of •the holes has made it into a testing championship course. Harewood is renowned for its greens and the spring growth coming away should make them all that is to be desired for the meeting. A good field is expected, and all Canterbury's best players, combined with a good southern entry, sfoould ensure a most successful tournament.
