HORNABROOK IN FORM
J. P. Hornabrook, present holder of the New Zealand opengs-.f title, turned ; 6ii excellent golf at the Miramar links on Sunday last, when a team from the Masterton Club held the Miramar Club .to a draw/ After winning the title at Hamilton at the last national tournament, Hornabrook for some time experienced a lapse of form that is not uncommon even among the best players. J. Shelly, a member of the Miramar Club, who recently returned from a world golfing tour, stated, that after seeing the best American and British players in action and with the possible exception of one or two players of the .calibre of Henry Cotton, he considered Hornabrook equally as brilliant a golfer as the men he had seen. This may be 3 trifle exaggerated, but the fact regnaioa gbas iofi MJlsnce gather than
soundness there is no player to equal him in New. Zealand today. For soundness Bryan Silk would take a lot of beating. At any rate with the national championships in view, Hornabrook appears to be returning to his best form, and this year's open championship should prove very interesting.
Hornabrook carded a 75 at Miramar on Saturday afternoon, beating Max Moore, the local club's number 1 man, by the convincing margin of 7 and 6. Considering the gale that was blowing it was an exceptionally fine effort. His score in the fourball in the morning was only one stroke more, so he appears to be playing more consistently than in past months. Moore, even though he was soundly beaten, returned quite useful cards himself.
