RIFLE SHOOTING
PETONE CLUB
The Petone Rifle Club opened the season with a practice shoot at 300 yards at Trentham on Saturday. A light breeze did not affect the more experienced shots. There was a good attendance. , _ During the afternoon Deputy President Ballinger and Weir picked a team of 16 men each; Deputy PresiIdent Weir's team ran out the winners by 18 points. Counting the ten highest scores in each team, Deputy President Weir's team proved to be the winners by 16 points. ! Of new members G. Snell made 45 at each attempt. The youngest member of the club, Roger Higgins, on his first day out, made 40 and 42. He finished his first shoot with three bulls, and his second attempt had a two-bull finish. Next Saturday there will be another practice shoot over 300 yards, and the following Saturday will start the competitions ,of the first series. Scores: — 300 300 yds. yds. Tl. R. H. Lusty, 42, 31—73. SUBURBS CLUB The Suburbs Rifle Club opened the 1938-39 season at Trentham on Saturday with a practice shoot at 300 yards. Conditions were ideal. H. R.
