WOMEN'S INSTITUTE

Mrs. Delahunty presided at the Paraparaumu Women's Institute meeting held in the Anglican Hall. There was a good attendance of members, aad all showed keen interest in the forthcoming spring flower and handicraft show which is to be held in September. Mrs. Smart and Mrs. Hadfield were chosen as delegates to the half-yearly federation meeting oh August 27.

Mrs. Strand gave an interesting talk, her subject being "Ripon and Fountain Abbey." Mrs. Sherring and Mrs. Baucke were thanked for their work connected with the handicraft exhibition held in conjunction with the recent conference in Wellington.

The competition for the best vegetable, a leek, was won by Mrs. Bain, with Mrs. Strand second. In the best flower competition Mrs. Sherring was first with an anemone, and Miss Lynch second with a camellia. For the best bowl of flowers, Mrs. Hardham was first, and Miss Wingate second.

The hostesses were thanked for serving a delicious afternoon tea, and the meeting concluded with the singing of the National Anthem,
