EMPLOYERS' WELFARE
THE ANNUAL MEETING
ELECTION OF OFFICERS
The annual meeting of the Welling- j ton Employers' Association was held last night, the president, Mr. B. Sutherland, presiding over an attendance of some 30 member:. The president of the New Zealand Employers' Federation (Mr. A. C. Mitchell) and its secretary (Mr. T. O. Bishop), were present. Membership had increased during the year, and the association was in a flourishing condition, said the president. The amount carried forward was nearly equivalent- to that of the previous year, and things had gone on peacefully and calmly. When he took over as president he found the financial standing of the association on a firm footing, which was due to the work put in by the former president and the secretary, in whom, and in the executive, they were very fortunate.
Mr. A. J. Curtis said that the work of the association had been carried on in a very satisfactory way, A great deal had been done for employers generally, who were up against some very hard propositions. It was pleasing to record that business done in Wellington had on the whole been of a high standard, but whether it would continue was another thing. Employers should join to combat inimical influences which had been felt during the year. Their president had taken a great interest in the welfare of employers. and members would regret that he had made up his mind to retire from the position.
The report and balance-sheet (already published) were adopted.
Many eulogistic references were made to the secretary (Mr. W. J. Mountjoy) and compliments were passed between the two employers' bodies on their harmonious relationships during the year. Particular reference was made to the excellent work that had been done by the retiring president (Mr. B. Sutherland) and on the motion of Mr. A. E. Mabin a vote of thanks was carried to him by acclamation. The election of officers resulted: —
