A DEBUTANTE DANCE

Miss Wanda Wyber, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. L. Wyber, 16 Rimu Road, Kelburn, made her debut before a gathering of about 85 of her friends at a dance given by her parents at the English-speaking Union rooms recently. Her frock was of silver beaded net over cream satin and was made with a bouffant skirt and form-fitting bodice with silver clasps, making a dainty finish on the shoulder straps. She wore a silver halo and carried, in place of the more conventional bouquet, a graceful feather fan. Mrs. Wyber. who received the guests at Me entrance to the flower-filled rooms, was wearing a trained hostess frock of clover crepe. . Iceland poppies in all their vivid tonings made a warm splash of colour against the cream walls and deep wine velvet hangings, and were shown to advantage under the bright glow of the modern wall lights. An excellen. orchestra played rhythmic topical "swing" numbers, and responded to many encores throughout the evening. Among those present were several who had made their debut earlier m the year, and all wished TVEiss Wyber every happiness in the years to come.

Milk is much more effective than water for sealing the edges of pastry. Pastry will also bake to a most appetising brown if it is lightly brushed over with milk just before it is put into the oven. Ink stains can be removed from hands by rubbing them with the inside of a banana skin.
