ISLAND BAY R.S.A.

The Island Bay district auxiliary of the Wellington Returned Soldiers' Association in its annual report for the 1937-38 year reports an increase in membership; there were 86 financial members, as against 73 for the same period last year, an increase of 13, but when it was taken into that there were 300 known returned soldiers in the district, the percentage was very low. Owing to sickness in Wellington the schools were all closed, and the usual Anzac Day service was dispensed with, but members of the executive and the school committee assembled to toll the Memorial Bell at the school, so as not to break the continuity of the ceremony. The report dealt with the auxiliary's activities in connection with Poppy Day and Rose Day, the provision of Christmas cheer and unemployment relief.

The year closed with a credit balance of £92.
