The final game of 16 heads will be played at 3.45 p.m. .' ' .■'•.'■■■ The closing stages of the junior rinks competition were reached last Saturday afternoon. In this competition, which has, been . well patronised, players of not more than four years' standing were eligible. Three, rinks had been left in. Two games were played. Popple's rink (the only one with two lives) lost a life to Lonsdale, who is in' the final. ' Popple's unfinished game 'against / Ellerm is being completed during the week. In the first garne.*R. r Reynolds, J. GaS'coigne, A. A';-McCorkindale, and W.J. E. Lonsdale (s). won by 16-14 against A. Duncan, D. D. Elias, F. G. FendalV and R. H. Popple (s), ■. Playing short heads, Lonsdale's rink was 15-4 on the twelfth end. Popple then captured the jack, and on long heads allowed Lonsdale to add only another point to his total, whilst Popple put on 10 points.' ~v V " Popple's rink then met W; E.-* McLein, F. Smith,tF.:Harris,;' and P. Ellerm (s), but could make little headway against superior team work. With sixteen heads gone Ellerm was 30-5, when the game finished for the day. Popple.was distinctly handicapped, as he" rarely lay the shot whGn th.f skips crossed over. , ■ ,'.. in the handicap .singles competition the following" players are left in:—A section, sixth round, D. J. O'Neill (who awaits the winner between P. Ellerm and H. Fowler) andT. Skoglund (who plays the winner between C. R. InIgram and E. McKenzie); B section, sixth^r.ound, P. Skoglund plays F. Smith.. D. Christie in the section final awaits the winner.
D. Christie's" game against E. Walker was.a fine exhibition of drawing. It was 12-all on the fourteenth head. Walker's fast work in the final stage could, not check Christie's progress. F. Smith reached the sixth round by winning against C. R. Ingram; a closely contested game which Smith did very well to win. j
