'■' With the end of the bowling season in sight, the clubs are hastening on to complete their competitions' whilst the weather remains favourable. Newtown Club is in the happy position of having completed, all its competitions, with one exception, the junior pairs. The champion singles competition was won by G. Ewir^g, who this year completes his third year at, the game. He was also a member of the champion rink; G. Bird.and F. Russell (s) won the champion pairs, the latter also skipping the .champion rink, which consisted of E. Culley, G. Ewing, C. Webster, and F. Russell (s), This rink won the i centre's champion of champion rinks competition, thus retaining for the' club, for the second year in succession, thehandsome trophy which was annexed last year by P. J. O'Connor, J. M. Porter, C. Webster, and W. Lewis (s).
The club this year decided to include a percentage fours event in its schedule. This has proved Very interesting and successful. Four teams competed in the semi-finals on Saturday last, after which the following teams met for the final game:—Kober, Wilson, Sceats, F. Russell (s), and Bolt, Chambers, King, L. Warwick (s). The game was keenly contested throughout, and when the final head was played the score stood at 13-all. Russell's team proved thep victors on the extra head by one point.
The green hks been in excellent condition' throughout the season, and although a little bare at the ends, still plays yery sweetly. The full benefit of the renovation carried out two years ago has been reaped this season, and the club has every reason to be satisfied with the result.
Next Saturday will be president's day, when members will assemble at 1.30 p.m. to participate in a rinkS "tournamenfrrrfour games of 10 heads — for trophies presented by the president, Mr. G. .W; Booth. This is al.'ways a-.popular fixture, and a good muster is expected.
The club extends good will to all bowlers, with the wish that the remaining weeks of the season will lack nothing in enjoyment of the good old game. .--.;■ ;
