NATIONAL MEETING
WILSON LEAVING TONIGHT
Three members of the Wellington team for the New Zealand amateur athletic championship meeting at Christchurch left at the beginning of the week, and the others sailed by the Rangatira last night. With them were Mr. A. Hose as manager, Mr. Ben. Sutherland, a vice-president of the centre, Mr. F. Bond, chairman of the centre, and Mrs. Bond, Mr. A. D. Rowse, secretary, and Mrs. Rowse, and the centre coach, Mr. A. L. Fitch. The Auckland and Hawke's Bay teams were also on board.
Tonight G. Quinn, sprinter,- is leaving to join the Hawke's Bay team. Mr. H. McCormick, secretary of the N.Z.A.A.A., will be travelling in the same shin to attend the conference of centres, to be held tomorrow, as will Mz-. A. Moon, of the Auckland Centre. Another athletic official who will be a passenger will be Mr. B. H. McKernan, Otago, who ,was masseur and trainer of the New Zealand athletes at the British Empire Games in Sydney.
.Mr. Fitch has taken with him his motion picture films of prominent athletes in action, and. the intention is that he give a screening of these while he is in Christchurch.
A. R. Wilson, the Wellingtpn one mile champion, was approached today with a view to his reconsidering his decision not to go south, and this afternoon it was announced that he had agreed to make the trip. Accordingly he is leaving tonight. Although it is reported that lately Wilson has let-up on his training a little, his presence in Christchurch will give the mile championship fresh interest for Wellington supporters. It is to be run tomorrow evening.
The meeting is to conclude on Saturday afternoon.
