YACHTING AT PETONE

ANNIVERSARY REGATTA

FALLING-OFF IN ENTRIES

One of the oldest of Wellington's Anniversary Day sporting fixtures, the Wellington-" Provincial Yacht '.and Motor-boat Association's regatta, was held off Petonc today. The Heretaunga Boating Club controlled the contest, and as it was the first time for 20 yoars that the regatta was held at the northern end of the harbour, the Heretaunga officials made-thorough preparations.

, Unfortunately a moderate to heavy northerly wind prevented many of the boats that would otherwise have competed from crossing the harbour from the clubs on the southern side, and the result was that the entries were disappointingly few. The officials of the regatta were as follows:—Chairman and handicapper, Mr. At G.-Harvey;,secretary and treasurer, Mr. A, Holmes;. starter, judge, and timekeeper, Mr. G. H. Tanner; racing secretary, Mr. H. Stutter1 sailing committee, Messrs. Tanner, Harvey, C. D? A. Highet, and C. Highet; course steward, Mr. A. Buckland.

The handicaps for X class centreboarders were abandoned because of insufficient entries, and the launch handicap was postponed until this afternoon. Other races were delayed for various reasons.

Insufficient entries also caused the abandonment of the speed boat race.

The results of races completed up to the time of going to .press were as follows:—
