ARCHAEOLOGIST'S DEATH

The Jerusalem correspondent of the British. United Press, referring to the shooting of the British archaeologist Mr. J. L. Starkey by Arabs in a highway hold-up near Hebron, says that bandits ordered Mr. Starkey, who was the only/ archaeologist to continue his work in. spite of terrorism, to descend from his car and surrender his revolver and wallet. They then handfCuSed, his chauffeur and two servants. An Arab fired, six shots at Mr. Starkey, and the assailants mutilated his body. They later released the servants and ordered them to inform the police.
It is officially announced that the opening of the Rockefeller Institute has been postponed indefinitely, as Mi. Starkey would have replied .to Sir,,] Arthur-Wauchope's address. |
