ENGINE DRIVERS' AWARD
The Engine Drivers, Firemen, and Greasers' Award, which takes effect from March 8 last in regard to wages, has been issued by the Arbitration Court/ It provides for a 40-hour week, between 8 a.m. and 5 pjn. Monday to Friday, inclusive, except in any factories, works, or industries where the ordinary hours of work are in excess of 40, when the hours of work shall be those observed in such cases. Time necessarily occupied in getting up steam shall not be included in the hours of work. „ , - , Minimum wages are fixed as foll_ ows: Engine drivers, for work, requiring a first-class certificate as stationary engine driver, for work requiring a traction or locomotive certificate, drivers of locomotives or steam road rollers, winding engine drivers holding the certificate, and drivers of steam-driven cranes . with first-class certificate, £5 5s per week; men substantially employed in electricallydriven plants over 50 h.p. and in charge of internal combustion engines over 20 h.p., -second-class certificate stationary engine driver and secondclass certificate steam crane or ;wmch drivers, £5 per week; firemen, stokers, greasers, watchmen, etc., £4 15s per week; stuff workers, firstrdass certificate, £5 12s 6d; second-class certificate, £5 7s 6d; uncertified, £5 2s 6d; county council traction drivers, £1 Is per day; winch drivers, 18s 6d per day; steaming-up time, 3s a day extra; those in charge of electrically-driven or uiternal combustion plants as abovementioned, £1 per day. Overtime is provided for. Hours for fraction drivers are to be subject to agreement, with piecework by contract in agricultural work. County work clauses apply only to county councils. Exemptions are granted in certain respects to proprietors of cool stores.
