ROSE DAY

TO BE HELD ON FRIDAY

The City Council has granted permission to the Wellington Returned Soldiers' Association'to hold their annual Rose. Day appeal next Friday. The funds raised annually by this appeal are devoted to assisting returned soldiers and their dependants. The association sincerely appreciate the noble manner in which the people of Wellington have responded to their request for funds in the past years, but regret to state that as the years roll by the need for assistance unfortunately does not diminish, owing to the fact that many of the "Diggers," as they grow older, find that the hardships and privations that fell to their lot during the war are now: starting to take their toll. The funds collected on Rose Day are one of the association's main sources of income, and the president earnestly appeals to the people of Wellington to show their appreciation of the sacrifice-the "Diggtrs" made in the period 1914-18 and send every collector back with a full collection box. With the returning signs of prosperity he is sure that this appeal will not be! in vain, and that citizens' will be only too glad to respond lira manner that will make the 1937 collection a record.
